Weighing in at over 5 pounds, the Avant Prime comes with a solid steel base construction, mechanical ALPS click / tactile key switches. The Avant Prime comes with 12 function keys across the top.

The Avant Prime is ready to use right out of the box .... no special programming or configuration is required unless you want to take advantage of the programmable and remappable features.

Each key can be reprogrammed to represent any key you choose, allowing you to customize your keyboard layout to you specific needs. The most popular customization of the Prime is the swapping of the “Ctrl” & “Cap Lock” keys. This moves the more frequently used “Ctrl” key up where it can be used in combination with other keys without the usual contortions. The Prime even provides replacement key caps, and a key puller for these two keys.

The Avant Prime also comes with complete Macro programming capabilities. You can program up to 24 Macros of 20 characters of your choice. You can even chain Macros together if they are longer than 20 characters. Macros can be up to 69 characters, but will limit the maximum number of Macros available. These Macros can then be assigned to function keys as one touch Macros, or to other keys that can be used with a hot key.

The Avant Prime can be programmed directly via the keyboard or using the Windows-based Programming Utility software included with the keyboard. The Avant Programming FAQ's describes how to directly program the Avant keyboard without the use of the included software.

Please note: A PS/2-to-USB adapter can be used if you wish to plug the keyboard into a USB port. However, the Avant Programming Software will only recognize the keyboard if it is plugged into a PS/2 port. After you program the Avant using the software via the PS/2 port, it can then be returned to the USB port.

With each key rated at a minimum of 20 million keystrokes, you will be purchasing the finest keyboard on the market today!

• Software Utility Diskettes - Windows-based software utility diskettes that allow you to re-map the individual keys to any other key. The utility also allows for macro programming. This programming utility software can also be downloaded at the bottom of this page. While the Avant keyboard is fully compatible will all versions of Windows, the programming software is not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows NT. However, the Avant keyboards can be programmed using an XP computer, or programmed manually, and then used on a Vista or NT computer.
